Privet was a Nomai from Brittle Hollow who worked at the Orbital Probe Cannon which was crucial for the working of the Ash Twin Project. She was the sister of Idaea, who worked at the Sun Station, and the apprentice of Filix, a high-ranking Nomai from the Vessel.[1][2]

Privet helped Filix make adjustments to the Eye signal locator on the Attlerock.[3] She also helped build the more sensitive locator in the Southern Observatory.[4] The Nomai ended up deciding that their methods should change as they continued their search for the Eye of the Universe.[5] Privet believed that because they could not find the Eye's signal using two different Eye signal locators, they should discontinue this search method.[6]

After the Ash Twin Project was set up, Privet started work on the Orbital Probe Cannon which would send a probe to search for the physical location of the Eye of the Universe.[7] Once the construction of the cannon was finished, she travelled up to the cannon to install the probe tracking system.[8] Privet made sure the Probe Tracking Module was ready to record each launch's flight trajectory and to transmit all relevant data automatically to the Ash Twin Project.[9] Once a probe determined the location of the Eye of the Universe, Privet would have sent an alert directly to Yarrow and Ramie who were inside the Ash Twin Project.[10] Privet would have been the first to see these coordinates.[11]

Privet worked with Mallow at the Orbital Probe Cannon. She urged them not to ask the cannon to use so much power that it would break.[12] Mallow told her that it did not matter if the cannon was damaged during launch because the probe only needed to be fired once.[13] This worried Privet because it would be impossible for them to receive the probe's data if the Probe Tracking Module was destroyed.[14] She told Yarrow that she was now concerned about the cannon's structural integrity and its crew's moral integrity.[15]

When the Ash Twin Project was put on hold, Privet was with Mallow at the Orbital Probe Cannon.[16] She returned from the cannon to visit her brother Idaea at the Sun Station because she feared he felt responsible for being unable to trigger a supernova.[17] It is unclear if she reached him before all the Nomai died due to the Ghost Matter from the Interloper spreading across the solar system. Privet's concerns about the cannon's structural integrity ended up being justified as the cannon breaks apart immediately upon launch, the Probe Tracking Module disappearing inside Giant's Deep's core.

  1. AVENS: An update: Mallow and I will join you and Daz. Privet left to visit her brother. She fears Idaea may feel responsible.
  2. FILIX: I see! I most likely calibrated the locator incorrectly. Privet (my apprentice) and I will make adjustments and try again.
  3. FILIX: I see! I most likely calibrated the locator incorrectly. Privet (my apprentice) and I will make adjustments and try again.
  4. PRIVET: The locator we built on the Attlerock and the new, more sensitive locator we built here were both unable to detect any trace of the Eye’s signal.
  5. CONOY: How should our methods change as we continue our search for the Eye of the universe?
  6. CONOY: How should our methods change as we continue our search for the Eye of the universe? PRIVET: As we couldn’t find the Eye’s signal using two different devices built for this exact purpose, we should discontinue this search method.
  7. MALLOW: We know what the Eye looks like thanks to the Quantum Moon, so what if we try to find the Eye visually, instead? Let’s send out a probe!
  8. CASSAVA: This is it: We’ve finished building the final Orbital Probe Cannon module and are ready to send it into orbit around Giant’s Deep for assembly! CASSAVA: Our next step will be to send Privet up to the Orbital Probe Cannon to install the probe tracking system.
  9. YARROW: I have exciting news, Privet: The Ash Twin Project is almost prepared to receive the probe data from the Orbital Probe Cannon. YARROW: Ramie is adding some finishing touches here, but she’ll be finished soon. Are you and the Orbital Probe Cannon well? PRIVET: We are! The Probe Tracking Module is ready to record each launch’s flight trajectory and will automatically transmit all relevant data to you.
  10. PRIVET: Once the probe determines the location of the Eye of the universe, I’ll send an alert directly to you and Ramie.
  11. MALLOW: Imagine, Privet: the Probe Tracking Module will be the first to know the coordinates of the Eye of the universe! You’ll be the first to see them!
  12. PRIVET: You won’t ask the Orbital Probe Cannon to use so much power that it breaks, will you?
  13. MALLOW: Fret not, my nervous friend! We only need to fire the probe once, anyway, so who minds if it compromises the Orbital Probe Cannon’s structural integrity slightly?
  14. PRIVET: I would mind, Mallow! I would mind, because we won’t be capable of receiving our probe’s data if the Probe Tracking Module is destroyed!
  15. PRIVET: On the other appendage, I’m now worried about this cannon’s structural integrity and its crew’s moral integrity.
  16. CASSAVA: Tell Privet and Mallow they should return from the cannon. My spouse and I will remain at the Construction Yard, for now.
