There is a new problem: Our equipment is detecting two distinct beacons from the Vessel.
~ Din

Din was a Nomai from the Vessel who crashed on Dark Bramble with Escape Pod 3.

Escape Pod 3[]

Escape Pod 3 suffered significant damage after departing from the Vessel, with its propulsion power and life support failing.[1] The Nomai decided that their best chance of survival would be to return to the Vessel to repair the damage or await rescue.[2] Din noticed that their equipment was detecting two separate beacons from the Vessel which were exactly identical to each other.[3] Escall decided that they should go to the beacon whose source was closest to them, but Din was worried about that beacon being false.[4]

Fate[]

Din perished alongside the rest of Escape Pod 3 after the signal they were following led to a bramble seed too small to fit through. The Nomai all had limited oxygen, and could not reach the other signal.[5]

Trivia[]

  • Din ka Raja is the Hindi name for the day-blooming jasmine, which is native to the West Indies.

  1. ALERT: Multiple collisions have altered pod’s trajectory. Significant damage to pod detected. WARNING: Navigation error. Life support error. Propulsion error.
  2. SECCA: Our best chance at survival is to return to the Vessel to either repair the damage or, more probably, await rescue.
  3. DIN: There is a new problem: Our equipment is detecting two distinct beacons from the Vessel. SECCA: But it isn’t possible for the Vessel to be in two different locations at the same time. DIN: I agree, but the beacons are exactly identical to each other. Perhaps if I had more time —
  4. ESCALL: We will follow the beacon whose source is nearest to us. DIN: But suppose that beacon is false!
  5. SECCA: It’s almost too faint to hear now, but the Vessel’s beacon is still faintly emitting from within this thorny seed. Yet the opening is too small for even a single Nomai to fit through it, so our escape pod couldn’t have flown through here.
